The inescapable allure of treachery

Such is the life that gives us little of what we need
And tempts us to pursue what we desire.

Such is the betrayal of the life that bestows upon us what we pray for
Yet takes us down a path where we will wish it away.

Such is the harshness of the life that gives us what we pursue with fervour
Yet with greater fervour we pursue what we know will destroy it.

Such is the human mind;
Twisted and never satisfied,
Greedy and impure,
Ruthless where compassion would prove a greater reward.

Such is the darkness that the human mind is dangerously drawn to,
Deeper down its dingy crevices where we scurry and scratch
For dark pleasures and obscene bouts of debauchery whose truths we bury in lies,
Bleeding and gaping with a pain that threatens to harm those who stumble upon their tales
Told by voyeuring walls.

Such is the reality of truth-
Do not judge those who choose not to know what they know;
Ignorance is a blissful escape from the torments of knowledge.

Sometimes it is best to hide behind what is unknown
When one agonises over the scarring scars left by floggings
From fictions and fabrications unmasked;
The unbearable abuse of betrayal.

Such is the life whose short and fragile string of sanity we clutch onto for dear life
And keep alive with pseudo-happiness and lies we tell ourselves
Lest transparency rob us of the willingness to live.

Yes, it is the life we choose to live until one day we decide:
We have had enough.
