I Don’t Know Why

You are the very thing that I seek.

You are all that I speak to heaven.

You’re all I dream – even in my coldest ones –

You’re there, you’re my joy, you’re my fears, you’re my nightmares.

But I love you, frightfully so.

I don’t know why I let you in this way

I don’t know why I let be this way

I don’t know why I let you hurt me this way

I don’t know why I let you treat me this way.

You speak with a fire that leaves me in ruins,

And if you found turmoil, my baby, you’d put me right through it.

You’d leave me right there to see if I’d stay,

To prove to you that I love you as much as I say.

Oh yes, you would do that to me, over and over again,

You’d bring me down, let me fall to the ground

Just to prove that I love you.

I don’t know why I let you in this way

I don’t know why I let be this way

I don’t know why I let you hurt me this way

I don’t know why I let you treat me this way.
