Gold

He had gold up his sleeves

And a voice you could believe any lie from; white, black, gold.

That’s how he lured me in.

He was bold in his promises

He had roses and kisses to say he is sorry for the lies that he hoped you’d forget.

And I will remember his name

And his sweetest embrace

And the warmth of the tears that he brought to my face.

He had a ghost in his shadow

That made him more than a good heart could handle

I must have been so damn wrong to deserve such a battle.

I must have pushed him away,

Trying so hard must have led him a stray,

Too much must have made him afraid of the love that I gave.

And I will remember his name

And his sweetest embrace

And the warmth of the tears that he brought to my face.
